Going forward the above site will be the principal web site for all information concerning Learn to Skate, Group FS classes and contract ice sessions at Parade.

SportQuest Skating Academy offers Learn to Skate group lessons for children and adults of ALL ages, with support from Parade Figure Skating Club.  Lessons are all held at Parade Ice Garden, 600 Kenwood Parkway, Minneapolis MN 55403, a block west of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and the Walker Art Center.

During the school year, classes for tots up through Delta are held in the Studio rink.  Fall season and  Winter season Learn to Skate sessions are offered.  There are choices of Saturday morning , Tuesday late afternoon and Thursday afternoon classes depending on skating level. Winter 2009-2010  classes will on January 9, 2010!

SQSA's  Learn to Skate program is an international instructional system through the Ice Skating Institute (ISI) which starts with your first steps on the ice and can eventually take you all the way through triple jumps!

During the Fall Season and the Winter Season

classes are offered during the following time periods:

Tuesday: 5:30pm-6:30 pm

Thursday: 10:00-10:45 am (SuperTots! classes for beginning skaters and parent/guardian)

Thursday: 4:30-5:30pm

Saturday:10:00am-12:00 noon
 

Tots: Basic skating/standing skills for children ages 3-5

Pre-Alpha: Two-foot glides, one-foot glides, forward swizzle, backward wiggle, and backward swizzles for children ages 6-12.

Alpha: Forward stroking, forward crossovers (L&R), snowplow stop

Beta: Backward stroking, backward crossovers (L&R), T-stops (L&R)

Gamma: Outside 3 turns, mohawks, two-foot hockey stop

Delta: Outside edges, inside 3 turns, bunny hop, lunge/shoot the duck

Adult: for teens/adults of all levels

Winter 2010!
Super Tots! Thursday morning classes.  Classes start January 14,  2010.  If necessary to accommodate enrollment,  Tuesday morning classes may be added..

Corrected: A learn to skate class for very beginning skaters: Learn to skate instruction  for young beginning skaters runs from 10:00 am to 10:30 am, and is then followed, from 10:30 to 10:45 am by a Playtime on Ice! period in which a parent, guardian, or significant other is invited to share the ice  for free with their Super Tot! If you have questions on our Super Tots! classes please email our skating director Page Lipe  by clicking her email SQSA1@aol.com.

Fall 2009
FS1-FS5 Group Classes: Learn to Skate Group classes for more advanced skaters in ISI Freestyle 1 through Freestyle 5. SQSA is offering a 10 -session group class on the full-size South Rink Saturday mornings from 11:15 am - 11:45 am beginning  January 9th, 2010 for skaters in Freestyle 1 -5.
  • Freestyle skaters are encouraged to sign up for Parade FSC/ SQSA contract ice sessions for additional practice
  • Classes are filled on a first-come, first served basis
  • No refunds, unless class is cancelled due to low enrollment

Freestyle 1: Backward edges, forward spiral, 2-foot spin, forward pivot, waltz jump, half flip

Freestyle 2: Forward edge spirals, dance step, one-foot spin, half toe walley, half lutz, ballet jump

Freestyle 3: Backward spiral, dance step, change-foot spin, backward pivot, salchow, toe loop

Freestyle 4: Backward edge spirals, dance step, sit spin, half loop, loop, flip

Freestyle 5: Dance step, back scratch spin, camel spin, combination spin, lutz, axel

Winter 2010

Young skaters taking Alpha through Gamma/Delta group classes may also be interested in our Penguins Intro to Synchronized Skating (youth team skating line).  This combines learn to skate elements along with learning to skate in a group routine.  In addition to the practices the Penguins will perform at the Snow Daze Exhibition on  Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 12:00 noon. .

NEW Forms now available!: Now Available!  Penguins  and Pixies Intro to Synchronized Skating registration form Winter 2010.  Classes start Tuesday January 12, 2010 at 4:30pm for the Penguins and at 5:00 for the Pixies.  Please contact raleighweld@yahoo.com for more information and placement..
