Types of Ice

Contract Ice is ice time that SportQuest Skating Academy (SQSA) has purchased from Parade Ice Garden, and the ice is then contracted to PFSC/SQSA members.  Purchasing a contract allows the skaters guaranteed access to this prime time ice at a discounted rate. Participation is limited to 20 skaters.    If you wish to purchase ice time on an as-needed basis, you may "buy on" to the ice when the session starts that day at the posted member buy on rate, provided the session is not full.  Non-members may also buy on, at a higher rate.

Random Buy-On Ice Policy:
This contract season we have freestyle sessions that are full or close to full.  Therefore we will use the following procedure when buying on to a freestyle:

1. Skaters can buy on as long as there are openings (20 skaters max) on a first come basis.
2. If the session is full you may buy on if a contracted skater has not checked in 15 minutes into the session.  You can then buy on at the 45 minute rate.
3. Contracted skaters who have not checked in 15 minutes into the session will lose their spot on that session.

4. You may purchase a freestyle ahead of time by signing up in the book and paying the random cost.  You must pay for the session when you sign up and you will not be refunded that money if you do not skate for any reason.

SQSA contract ice is offered year around, including the summer months. The year is broken up into a series of shorter-duration ice contracts:  Fall, Winter 1, Winter 2,  Spring, Mini May term, and Summer. While the ice schedule usually remains similar, each season may have additional group on ice and off ice classes offered, such as on ice STAR classes, off ice jump, off ice dance or ballet, etc., and the offerings will differ depending on the season.

SummerQuest 2009 Ice and Training contract (June 15-August 19, 2009)   SummerQuest 2010 information will be available in Spring 2010  at the www.sqsaparade.com web site but offerings should be similar to the 2009 program. This packet explains SummerQuest ice levels, what the group classes consist of, etc.

The Five Basic Rules of  Contract Ice:

  1. Program Skater Has the Right of Way
Whether or not  wearing the bright neon sash, the skater performing his or her program to their music has the right of way. This means that you must move out of the way of this skater. You do not finish what you are doing, you just move. A skater wearing the sash must be skating their program, not practicing. If you will be the next skater to wear the sash, you should be ready at the boards.

  2. Spins
Unless you are performing your program, ALL SPINS are in the CENTER of the ICE.

  3. Jumps
Unless you are performing your program, ALL JUMPS are at either END of the ICE. Make sure you leave enough room so that other skaters can get around you.

  4. Movement on the Ice
If you are not moving, then you must be standing at the boards or off the ice. If you are on the ice, your back should be to the boards and your eyes on the ice. All talking is between you and your coach. All chatting with friends is done off the ice. If you fall down, get up as quickly as possible. Lying or sitting on the ice is dangerous to you and the other skaters.

  5. Respect and Attitude on the Ice
Be respectful to your fellow skaters, coaches and the Rink Parents. Kicking or stomping on the ice is not tolerated. Swearing or any foul language is unacceptable. If you are an older skater, keep in mind that the younger skaters are watching you. Be a good role model.
