Types of Ice
There are four different opportunities for skaters to get ice time for practice and lessons. These are
contract club ice, contract SQSA ice, Pro's
ice, and Open Skating ice.
Contract Ice is ice time that
Parade Figure Skating Club (PFSC) or SportQuest Skating Academy (SQSA) has
purchased from Parade Ice Garden, and the ice is then contracted to PFSC/SQSA members.
Purchasing a contract allows the skaters guaranteed access to this prime time
ice at a discounted rate. Participation is limited to 20 skaters.
You must be a member of PFSC to purchase a PFSC contract, or a joint PFSC/SQSA
member to purchase an SQSA contract. If you wish to purchase ice time on
an as-needed basis, you may "buy on" to the ice when the session starts that
day, provided the session is not full. Non-members may also buy on, at a
higher rate.
PFSC contract ice is
offered during the school year, from early September
through late April. The contract lasts for the duration of this time, with
exceptions for winter break and certain holidays and events. PFSC
subsidizes the cost of its contract ice sessions with the profits from the
annual ISI Blades of March competition.
2007-2008
Parade Ice Contract form
SQSA contract ice is offered year around, including
the summer months. The year is broken up into a series of shorter-duration ice
contracts: Fall, Winter, Spring, Mini May term, and Summer. While the ice
schedule usually remains similar, each season may have additional group and off
ice classes offered, such as off ice jump, off ice dance or ballet, etc., and
the offerings will differ depending on the season.
Spring 2008 SQSA Contract form
Pro's Ice is available directly to the skaters for purchase from Parade
Ice Garden. This daytime ice is reserved for figure skaters who have an active
relationship with one of the Parade coaching professionals. During the skating
season this ice is sold on a per session basis. Participation is limited to 24
skaters. You may also purchase a punch card at the Parade Ice Garden
office. Times are subject to change, and become scarce during the hockey
season- check with office at Parade Ice Garden for any changes.
General schedule for Pro's Ice
Open Skating Ice is available directly to skaters from Parade Ice Garden.
This ice is available to the general public and safety concerns prohibit the
execution of some skating elements. There is no enforced limit to the number of
skaters. The cost is $2.75 per session ($3.00 for adults between 18 & 62). .
The Five Basic Rules of PFSC Contract Ice:
-
Program Skater Has the Right of Way
Whether or not wearing the bright neon sash,
the skater performing his
or her program to their
music has the right of way. This means that you
must move out of the way of this skater. You do not finish what you are doing, you just move.
A skater wearing the sash must be skating their program, not practicing. If you will be the
next skater to wear the sash, you should be ready at the boards.
-
Spins
Unless you are performing
your program, ALL SPINS are in the CENTER of the ICE.
-
Jumps
Unless you are performing
your program, ALL JUMPS are at either END of the ICE.
Make sure you leave enough room so that other skaters can get around you.
-
Movement on the Ice
If you are not moving, then you must be standing at the boards or off the ice. If you are on the ice,
your back should be to the boards and your eyes on the ice. All talking is between you and your
coach. All chatting with friends is done off the ice. If you fall down, get up as quickly as possible.
Lying or sitting on the ice is dangerous to you and the other skaters.
-
Respect and Attitude on the Ice
Be respectful to your fellow skaters, coaches and the Rink Parents. Kicking or stomping on the
ice is not tolerated. Swearing or any foul language is unacceptable. If you are an older skater,
keep in mind that the younger skaters are watching you. Be a good role model.
