Parade FSC Ice Monitor

We try to  have an adult serve as a monitor on the PFSC Ice sessions on Wed (5:30 and 6:45pm), Thur  (5:30 and 6:45pm) and Sat morning (9:45am) to assist younger skaters in checking in for the ice session, playing their music, etc.  Please note weekday ice times are 30 minutes later from mid Nov to mid Feb.

MONITOR RESPONSIBILITIES:  You are in responsible for basically four things: Checking in Skaters, ensuring that the ice rules are followed, handling any money carefully, and representing Parade Figure Skating Club in routine and emergency situations. The following list of responsibilities should clarify those tasks.

  •  Check-in at the  top of sign up sheet.  If you are a substitute ice monitor, please sign legibly.

  •  Check in the skaters by putting a check mark next to their name.

  •  Get any music (CD's or tapes) from the skaters at check in.

  •  Accept Payments for Buy On Ice. Buy on ice is available if a contract does not have 20 skaters. The rates are on the sign in sheet. Print name of skater and note check number.   You may write any additional notes on the sheet for that session.  At the beginning of the season some buy-on skaters may check in and  state that they have mailed in a contract or they may hand their contract to the monitor.  Make a notation on the sheet and if possible email web@paradefsc.org if there are any questions

  •  Play Tapes in the Proper Order. Skaters should place their tapes in order of check in along the boards near the tape player and play their tapes in order, respecting the line up and be fair about allowing the remaining skaters to get their tapes played before getting your tape played a second time

  •  Coaches may "bump" tapes so that a skater taking a lesson can have his or her tape played next. This counts as that skater's turn during that order. Similarly a skater's coach may have that skater's second time tape be played during the first round of tapes.

  •  In an Emergency, if a skater requires minor first aid, supplies are available in the office. If a skater loses consciousness even for a moment and even if a parent is present and even if that parent is a physician, you must call for the paramedics at 911.

  •  If you get questions about the club, be an ambassador and be as helpful as possible. Please direct them to the web site or have them call any board member. If there is a question about the ice rules ask Page Lipe or Karen Heng Olson.  If they are not present,  remind skaters that if they are not actively skating they should be get off the ice or should be touching the boards.

  •  At the end of the session make sure that the skaters clear the ice, that the CD's get returned to the skaters, and that any money collected is placed in the holder in the ice monitor’s book. Give the book  to the next monitor or at the end of the day ask Page Lipe or Karen Heng Olson  or one of the other staff coaches to place it in the coaches’ room.  If a coach is not available at the end of a session (rare but could happen if there is a competition with many of our skaters participating) place the book in the club locker..  The tape/cd player should likewise be passed on to the next monitor or at the end of the evening turned in to the coaches' room or if necessary placed in the club locker.
